Elder Caregiver Info and Caregiving? You just joined the unique group of people who care for and about senior citizens. Having been the Caregiver for my parents, I would like to share information gained from my experience and from other caregivers. It may apply to the Caregiven, but as a Caregiver you need to be aware of your challenges.

Most Caregivers are either a spouse or family member; or sometimes a special friend. Your relationship has a new dimension as you deal with all the facets of your patient's life. Your role will constantly change, and more attention will be needed. It will not always be easy, but you will share a deepening sense of each other through the progression. Initial Preparations as noted in Elder Caregiver Info should include: forming the Care Management Team; preparing the family; preparing the adult and self emotionally;home preparation;and establishing elder care costs - both current and anticipated. Not to mention scheduling appointments and arranging for transportation.
The Care Management Team should be made up of the Caregiver, family, friends and professional associates that will be looking after the welfare of the Caregiven. Finances, Legal Affairs,
Health Directives, Health Care Programs and Services are pieces with questions that have to answered. Assignment and sharing of responsibilities need to be outlined or they are assumed to be the burden of the Caregiver. Cooperation, Communication and Coordination makes it work.
