The Cares and Concerns of the Elder Caregiver - More Than Just Medical Care
The Cares and Concerns of the elder caregiver are more than you think. They are the people involved in the care of an individual who requires assistance in their daily life, due to accident, the aging process or debilitating disease. The Primary Caregiver is normally thought to be responsible for the daily medical and dietary care of the Caregiven and is usually a spouse, adult child or relative who can take on the daily care and assistance without payment for services. Other caregivers are usually other family members, doctors, or those named by a court of law (on a permanent or temporary basis) to act on behalf of the incapacitated individual. This might be the Primary Caregiver, but usually is the financial coordinator authorized to act on behalf of the caregiven should the need arise. The Caregiver, the Caregiven and the family must initially prepare for the changes that are occurring. They must consider the emotional changes and physical demands of themselves and cooperate with each other to allow the Caregiven to be self-sufficient as long as possible. The role of the caregiver is one of constant change as the needs arise and must be able to handle the situation as well as communicate with the family. The Cares and Concerns are:
