Family History - Tales of Life and Love
Family History is being lost as nobody talks to the older generation and writes down all the good stuff while memories are still sharp enough to remember the truths and the lies. Encourage writing down what's remembered or tape recording it so someone else can put it down on paper. It's not until the oldsters are gone that families seem to want to know what happened and when and with whom. How did we get from here to there?Compile: Family Recipe Books for the younger generation to know what it was really like to cook before microwaves. The ingredients that were popular and the whole process of preparing meats and vegetables and those wonderful baked goods. Family Trees to see who are famous and infamous. Fun to see who is related and from where. Look back and see where it all started and how it got to you and where it went from there. Be sure to include all the generations and kids to the present. Family History of all the people, places and things. What were the careers, the illnesses, the hardships, the life and times lived in the real history of life? It wasn't always easy to make a living or own a house or property that may still be in the family now. Family Tales and Folklore that should be passed down to the next generation before it's lost to poor memories and overactive imaginations to fill in the blanks. As a generation of information is lost, those that remain tend to rewrite it to suit their memories or those they think they heard. The real stuff is usually a lot more interesting. Fashions have changed over the generations. What was worn in childhood, through the teenage years, as young adults and then as mature adults and grandparents? What did great-grandma and grandpa wear? How did they make them? What materials were used? How were they sewn and by what patterns? What about those flour sacks that turned into shirts? How did they get the colors in the materials. Manufacturers made it easy when they offered it for sale, but what if it had to be made at home? Remember the good old days the way it really was.
