Furniture for Comfort and Safety - The Electric Helpers
Furniture is constantly being redesigned and developed for elder care. The medical industry has realized that conditions sometimes merit additional assists for the patient and the caregiver. The hand or electric operated hospital beds are being made for home use to allow changing positions for the temporarily or permanently bedridden or those that want a choice of positions. The head and foot are usually adjustable to find healthful and comfortable zones, and bed-rails can be applied for safety. Similar to hospital beds options, special mattresses are available for convalescents to protect against bedsores at pressure points. Electric Lift Chairs, while not inexpensive, allow the user to rise and sit down without endangering their balance. The user backs up to the chair and a control switch raises the chair seat so the person can be seated. Reversing the switch allows the person to follow the chair seat down. The reverse is true for rising. These chairs are also recliners for maximum comfort. As older persons become less steady and are using walkers or canes, these chairs allow them to rise or sit safely and without relying on weakened limbs to bear the load. These items may not be paid for Medicare or other insurance. While perhaps not a necessity, often a practical solution to ongoing care conditions. We will research the current models available and report on what we find.
