Home Nursing - Help for the Caregiven and Caregiver

Home Nursing in regards to elder care is often described with more than one meaning. The two major ones are: An agency that performs personal and medically necessary procedures in the home of a patient as determined by the primary physician; and the actual function necessary to care for a patient who needs assistance in their daily life to remain in their familiar living environment.

An agency is usually called in by the physician when the patient must receive medications and treatment or therapy by a licensed professional, but that can be done in the home. This may include injections, medications, dressings, physical therapy, speed therapy, occupational therapy, and the assistance by an aide where physical limitation of the caregiver might warrant it. This is a temporary service, usually paid for by Medicare or other insurance.

Caregivers usually assist the patient with additional bathing and personal care; tends to dietary concerns; and arranges for transportation for physician visits, emergency situations or other venues.

It is often beneficial is the caregiver can perform simple checks and tests as blood pressure and glucose levels, and can note changes in health patterns and/or what events influenced it.
