Phones and Doorbells the Sight and Sound of Self-confidence
Phones and Doorbells for the elderly are great assistants. Phones should have large dials for arthritic hands and reduced vision. They should be easily handled and easily turned off when not in use. It is frightening to call a loved one for hours to find that they forgot or were not able to hang it up. Where hearing impairment may be present a light that blinks when the it rings can be beneficial. It is easier to check on a loved one who can hear and answer than to have no idea how they are doing. Emergency notification systems can be installed with a system so that if help is needed it's only a button away. Doorbells are nice so that if a caller is at the door the resident knows they are present. Elder citizens need to remember to check who is at the door and only open it to someone they know. Storm doors add to the safety of the resident with the proper latches. These units can be installed with the same light features. Wireless units can also be used similar to the hospital call button for the caregiver to know that assistance is needed. These units are simple to install and the button can be moved with the user in and about the house.
