Services? What Else Is There Besides Doctors?

Services? As an elder caregiver you will be dealing with a number of providers. A warm and friendly attitude toward them make a huge difference in their cooperation in answering questions, appointments and accessibility when you need it most. The physician may be the leader, but it's the troops that make it happen.

It is suggested that you establish a file folder that is always available for the Caregiven's information. Keep a calendar to note appointment dates and doctor names; and keep the appointment cards for a reminder. Keep a list of phone numbers and addresses for physicians, specialists, therapists, and care management team for easy reference. Have a current list of medicines and dosages for the doctor's review, and keep copies of a document with the patient's identification or driver's license, insurance cards - Medicare, Medicaid or other insurance. Also keep a copy of the Health Care Directives. The physician's office will appreciate all the information in one place and you are not digging for cards at the last minute. Keep copies of the report forms from the doctor offices in the folder for comparison with insurance billings. You might find your records are more up to date than the providers.

Keep a copy of the medicines and emergency contact information for immediate access by emergency personnel near the location of the medicines. It saves time and provides valuable information.
