Transportation? Who GIves the Ride?

Transportation is usually required for visits to the physician as well at other appointments and grocery store visits. Physical capability determines the mode of required. It is quite beneficial when the caregiver or a member of the care management team can provide the necessary means, and assist the care participant in and out of the facility, to church, to other venues of activity for as long as possible.

When alternatives are required emergency vehicles or ambulance services may be the answer if the medical conditions warrant it. Fees are not always covered by Medicare or other insurance. Check invoices to be sure of billings and policies as to what is covered.

Check with churches or organizations that might be able to help. Some offer rides to a doctor's appointment, the grocery store or the pharmacy and even to church activities.

Caregivers must remember their own physical limitations should an emergency arise and call for proper assistance rather than risk injury to themselves or caregiven. When in doubt, call for help.
